About our Services
Northbrook Fire Department offers services including:
- Emergency medical services (advanced life support)
- Emergency preparedness planning
- Fire cause and origin investigation
- Fire prevention inspections/permits
- Fire suppression
- Hazardous materials
- Public fire education programs
- Special rescue response
- Underwater rescue and recovery
Service is provided to approximately 33,170 Village and 4,000 Rural District residents across 16.5 square miles. Northbrook maintains 3 fire stations, housing 2 engine companies, 1 truck company, 3 paramedic rescue ambulances, and 1 District Chief on a daily basis. Additionally, 3 Special Teams are staffed in Underwater Rescue and Recovery (Dive), Special Rescue, and Hazardous Materials Response. Fire Department members take pride in their service delivery and use their training and skills to assist the residents, business partners, and visitors on approximately 5,900 calls for service annually.
Success is directly related to relationships Northbrook maintains with partner agencies and the public by providing a high level of emergency management and risk mitigation service through 96 highly talented and dedicated individuals. The Department is also part of the Mutual Aid Box Alarm System Division 3 (MABAS Division 3).
Automatic aid and mutual aid agreements are in place with all of the surrounding communities and Northbrook is part of the Regional Emergency Dispatch Center (RED Center) Communication System which provides fire dispatch to fourteen area fire departments. The automatic and mutual aid agreements, as well as the regional dispatch system, are accomplishments that provide a seamless response to even the most challenging emergencies.
The Northbrook Fire Department is certified by Cook County Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management and the State of Illinois as the Emergency Management Agency for the Village. Rated a "1" by Insurance Services Office, Inc., Northbrook provides superior fire-protection services for citizens and property owners ranking Northbrook in the top 2.50% of Fire Departments in Illinois.
