Plan Commission Application Process

The Plan Commission application process consists of four general steps following the pre-application meeting with the Development & Planning Services Department:

Succinct Flow Chart of Process

These steps noted above are further detailed in the Plan Commission Application Flow-Chart (PDF).

1. Pre-Application Meeting

It is recommended that anyone interested in submitting a zoning or subdivision relief application contact the Development and Planning Services Department before submitting any formal applications. Contact the department at 847-664-4050 to schedule a meeting.

2. Preliminary Application

Prior to submitting a formal application, some applications are required to undergo a preliminary review by the Village Board of Trustees. If the Board has not yet reviewed your preliminary application, please contact the Department of Development and Planning Services to learn what is required. While not all applications are required to undergo a preliminary review, all requested relief is afforded an opportunity to choose to have a preliminary review at no expense.

3. Formal Application

Following Preliminary Review by the Board of Trustees, an applicant must submit a formal application with necessary worksheets required for the processing of a formal application by the Village's Plan Commission and Board of Trustees. The Northbrook Zoning Code Application Manual contains all the instructions, forms, and worksheets for seeking zoning relief.
