Arterial Sidewalk Program - Summer 2019
The Village of Northbrook systematically surveys public sidewalks to identify defective and deteriorated sections of sidewalk that create a potential hazard and a liability for the Village. The 2019 program will focus on improvements on the sidewalk along Willow Road and Landwehr Road between Willow and Techny Road.

Arterial Sidewalk Program - Summer 2020
In addition to the routine sidewalk removal and replacement program, the Village maintains the sidewalks located adjacent to major arterial streets within the Village, such as Dundee Road. These sidewalks are heavily used throughout the year and provide a critical link between different areas of the community for pedestrians. This program identifies sections of deteriorated or defective sidewalk on at least one side of the arterial road and replaces or repairs them to remove potential hazards using the same replacement process outlined in the routine sidewalk removal and replacement program. In 2020, the Village will complete improvements along Landwehr Road between Keystone Road and Huehl Road and Sanders Road between Terri-Lyn Lane and Lake-Cook Road.

Asphalt streets are selected for rehabilitation based on a computerized pavement management system (IMS), a thorough review of the condition of the pavement surface/base conditions by Public Works staff, pavement condition in relation to the adjacent streets, timing to select and complete the most cost effective rehabilitation measure and coordination with other Village infrastructure projects.

Asphalt streets are selected for rehabilitation based on a computerized pavement management system (IMS), a thorough review of the condition of the pavement surface/base conditions by Public Works staff, pavement condition in relation to the adjacent streets, timing to select and complete the most cost effective rehabilitation measure and coordination with other Village infrastructure projects. The 2019 program will focus on rehabilitating portions of Woodlawn Road and the entirety of Penfold Place and Picardy Circle.

Bicycle/Pedestrian Improvements - 2020
In addition to the routine sidewalk removal and replacement programs, the Village completes improvements for bicycle and pedestrians as outlined in the Master Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan. In 2020, the Village will construct the Farnsworth-Birch-Koepke-Miller bicycle boulevard.

Shermer Road Bridge/CBD Improvements - 2018
The Central Business District (CBD) is the Village’s downtown area, which includes retailers and restaurants, the Village Green Park and Northbrook’s Metra Station. Following the 2017 work on the streets and streetscape of the CBD, the 2018 project will finalize the project by replacing the Shermer Road bridge and completing some minor paving work on Shermer Road.

Concrete Street Reconstruction - 2018
The Village of Northbrook proactively reviews the condition of our utility systems, water and sewers, on an annual basis and updates our recommended five-year Capital Improvement Plan. The 2018 program will focus on the complete reconstruction of Anthony Trail between Macarthur and Commercial Avenues.

Central Business District Infrastructure - 2017
The Central Business District (CBD) is the Village’s downtown area, which includes retailers and restaurants, the Village Green Park and Northbrook’s Metra Station. Work will be done on the streets within the Central Business District including Shermer Road between Maple Avenue and Waukegan Road, Meadow Road between Walters Avenue and Cherry Lane, Cherry Lane between the railroad underpass and Keystone Avneue, and Church Street between Keystone Avenue and Shermer Road.

Lee Road Reconstruction - Summer 2017
The Village of Northbrook will be reconstructing and converting Lee Road to asphalt. Lee Road serves as the primary connector between Lake-Cook Road and the Williamsburg Subdivision as well as the properties on Longmeadow Road and the Cove School.

Lone Tree Subdivision Phase II - Summer 2017
The Village of Northbrook proactively reviews the condition of our utility systems, water and sewers, on an annual basis and updates our recommended five-year Capital Improvement Plan. Water mains are scheduled for replacement on Bayberry Drive (between Laburnum Drive and Huehl Road), Sorrel Drive (between Laburnum Drive and Huehl Road), Tamarind Drive (between Laburnum Drive and Huehl Road), Banyan Drive (between Sorrel Drive and Tamarind Drive), and Huehl Road (between Harris Drive and Tamarind).

Sidewalk Improvement Program - Summer 2017
The Village of Northbrook systematically surveys public sidewalks to identify defective and deteriorated sections of sidewalk that create a potential hazard and a liability for the Village. Often, tree roots that push up sections of sidewalks and the Midwest’s freeze/thaw cycle cause sections of sidewalk to be defective and or deteriorate. Village staff survey sidewalks based on logical geographic areas to determine which portions are to be replaced.
