Project Description

The Village of Northbrook plans for and funds the replacement of water main each year. A particular focus is placed on replacing 6-inch cast iron water mains as this is historically the worst performing main within the water distribution system.

This project will focus on the replacement of the original 6-inch cast iron water main located on Eastwood Lane, Larrabee Lane, and Ridge Road, from Hillside Road to Lee Road, as well as Wendy Drive and Daryl Lane. Construction is anticipated to begin in March 2024.

Enabling Resolution:

On February 13th, the Village Board passed a resolution to award the water main contract to Berger Contractors, Inc. Minutes of the Meeting can be found at this link.

Construction Notification Letters:

A flyer was mailed in early January to residents who live adjacent to project impacts, inviting them to a preconstruction open house.  The flyer can be viewed at this link.

On Friday, February 16 2024, the Village mailed the construction notice for the Northbrook Glen Water Main Improvements Project. The construction notice can be viewed at this link.

Open House

The Village of Northbrook hosted a Public Information Open House at Village Hall on January 30th, 2024 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. The Open House Presentation can be viewed at this link.

Friday, June 28

This week, structure adjustments were performed to prepare for final paving.  Paving was delayed due to the rain event.

Next week, the final asphalt surface will be paved prior to the 4^th of July weekend.

Friday, June 21

This week, the contractor completed base patching throughout the subdivision.

Next week, the contractor will complete the roadway surface paving throughout the subdivision.

Friday, June 14

This week, the contractor performed spot curb removals and replacement throughout the subdivision.

Next week, the contractor will grind off the roadway surface and perform base patching throughout the subdivision.

Friday, June 7

Next week, the contractor will begin spot curb removals and replacement throughout the subdivision.

Friday, May 31

This week, the contractor finished driveway replacements and landscaping restoration. Additionally, the contractor put down fresh stone on Larrabee Lane and Eastwood Lane.

After this week, the contractor onsite will be Peter Baker & Sons, who will be resurfacing the roads and performing curb work.

Friday, May 24

This week, the contractor began driveway replacements and restoration work, including fencing and landscaping. Additionally, the contractor paved the asphalt portions of Larrabee Lane and Eastwood Lane.

Next week, the contractor intends to finish driveway replacements and landscaping restoration. Additionally, the contractor intends to repair damaged portions of the gravel roads on Larrabee Lane and Eastwood Lane.

Friday, May 17

This week, the contractor finished water service transfers on Eastwood Lane, and performed a water main disconnection at the intersection of Eastwood and Lee. Additionally, the contractor began curb replacements.

Next week, the contractor intends to begin driveway replacements. Additionally, the contractor intends to begin restoration work, including fencing and landscaping.

Friday, May 10

This week, the contractor finished water service transfers on Daryl Lane. Additionally, the contractor performed water main connections at the intersections of Ridge/Hillside, Larrabee/ Hillside, and Eastwood/Hillside. Lastly, the contractor performed water main disconnections at the intersections of Ridge/Lee and Larrabee/Lee.

Next week, the contractor intends to begin service transfers on Eastwood Lane. Residents will receive 24-hour notice before water service transfers. Additionally, the contractor intends to begin curb and driveway replacements. Lastly, the contractor intends to perform a water main shutdown on Thursday, May 16^th. The shutdown will allow the contractor to disconnect the old water main system on Eastwood Lane from the water main on Lee Road.

Friday, May 3

This week, the contractor finished water service transfers on Wendy Drive and connected the existing Caryn Terrace water main to the new system. 

Next week, the contractor intends to continue service transfers on Daryl Lane. Residents will receive 24-hour notice before water service transfers. Additionally, the contractor intends to begin retiring the old water mains where service transfers have been completed.

Friday, April 26

This week, the contractor finished water service transfers on Ridge Road and began service transfers on Wendy Drive.

Next week, the contractor intends to continue service transfers on Wendy Drive and Larrabee Lane. Residents will receive 24-hour notice before water service transfers.

Friday, April 19

This week, the contractor continued water main installation on Eastwood Lane, and began service transfers on Ridge Road and on Larrabee Lane.

Next week, the contractor intends to continue service transfers on Ridge Road, and begin service transfers on Wendy Drive and Daryl Lane. Residents will receive 24-hour notice before water service transfers.

Friday, April 12

This week, the contractor continued water main installation on Eastwood Lane, and finished water main installation on Daryl Lane.

Next week, the contractor intends to begin water service transfers on Ridge Road and on Larrabee Lane. Residents will receive 24-hour notice before water service transfers. Additionally, the contractor intends to continue water main installation on Eastwood Lane.

Friday, April 5

This week, the contractor began water main installation on Eastwood Lane and finished water main installation on Wendy Drive.

Next week, the contractor intends to begin service transfers on Ridge Road and on Larrabee Lane. Residents will receive 24-hour notice before water service transfers. Additionally, the contractor intends to continue water main installation on Eastwood Lane and Daryl Lane.

Friday, March 29

This week, the contractor began water main installation on Wendy Drive, continued water main installation on Daryl Lane, and finished water main installation on Larrabee Lane.

Next week, the contractor intends to begin water main testing on Larrabee Lane and Wendy Drive. Additionally, the contractor intends to begin services on the eastern half of Ridge Road. Residents will receive 24-hour “door hanger” notices before water service transfers. Lastly, the contractor intends to begin water main installation on Eastwood Lane.

Friday, March 22

This week, the contractor began water main installation on Daryl Lane, continued water main installation on Larrabee Lane, and finished water main installation on Ridge Road. Additionally, testing was performed on the eastern half of Ridge Road.

Next week, the contractor intends to begin water main installation on Wendy Drive and Eastwood Lane. Additionally, the contractor intends to perform testing on Larrabee Lane and Daryl Lane. Lastly, the contractor intends to begin water service transfers on the eastern half of Ridge Road. Residents will receive 24-hour notice before water service transfers.

Friday, March 15

This week, the contractor continued water main installation on Ridge Road and Larrabee Lane.

Next week, the contractor intends to finish water main installation on both Ridge Road and Larrabee Lane. Later next week, the contractor intends to begin water main installation on Daryl Lane and Wendy Drive. Residents should exercise caution while traveling through the project site and expect traffic delays.

Friday, March 8

This week, the contractor began water main installation near the intersections of Lee Road on Ridge Road and Larrabee Lane. 

Next week, the contractor intends to continue installing water main to the west on both Ridge Road and Larrabee Lane.

March 1, 2024

This week, the contractor began the delivery of traffic control devices to the site.

Next week, the contractor intends to begin water main installation. One crew will begin working on Ridge Road starting near Lee Road.  A second crew will begin working on Larrabee Lane starting near Lee Road.

January 16, 2024

The Village of Northbrook will be hosting a Public Information Open House at Village Hall on January 30^th, 2024 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. Staff will walk through the plans with residents and answer questions.

June 22, 2023

The design consultant, Gewalt Hamilton Associates, began designing water main improvements for the Northbrook Glen Subdivision project.
