Driveway/Patio

A permit is required towards the removal and replacement and/or installation of new driveway, patio, service walk, stoop, etc. Please see below for permit submittal requirements and for general construction information.

Application Requirements

Please select the permit application based on the scope of your project:
  • Remove and Replace Driveway/Patio Packet (No net increase or decrease in current patio or driveway surface)
    1. Driveway/Patio Permit Application
    2. Letter of Understanding for Decorative Pavement - Must be signed and notarized only if replacing the driveway approach (apron) with decorative pavers
    3. Tree Protection Agreement
    4. Contractor License Application
  • New or Increase/Decrease Driveway Packet - The documents below have been combined into one PDF file.
    1. Driveway Application

Application Fees & Deposits

  • Building Construction and Inspection Fee for remove/replace of existing driveway/patio - $70 minimum (Due at time of permit pick-up)
  • Impervious Surface Fee - $1.60 per square foot of net increase in impervious surface for most properties (Due at time of permit pick-up)
  • Additional Fees may apply at time of permit pick-up

Drawing Requirements (Submitted With Permit Application)

  • Civil Drawings (If over 400 square feet of new impervious surface) - 4 rolled sets (See Civil Engineering Submittal Guidelines)
  • Plat of Survey* - 2 copies (Required only if there is an increase or decrease in size of driveway; required for all patio applications)
*The following needs to be clearly shown upon the plat:
  • Footprint of existing pavement to be removed, with dimensions
  • Footprint of proposed new pavement, with dimensions
  • Type of material (indicate concrete, asphalt or brick pavers)

Proposed Gas Appliances

If a new gas appliance (gas grill or fire pit) is to be installed in association with a new patio, the following additional requirements apply:
  • Contractor of Record Form indicating all contractors on the project
  • Gas Pipe Sizing Determination
  • Manufacturer's Specifications For Gas Appliance/s to be installed
  • Site Plan* - 2 copies
*The following needs to be clearly shown upon the submitted plan:
  • The location of the new gas appliance(s)
  • The location of the new gas service line
  • The total pipe length (feet), the pipe diameter (inches), and the proposed pipe material to be used

Required Inspections

The following inspections are to be scheduled by contacting 847-664-4050. You will need to specify the property address and permit number:
  1. Pre-Pour Inspection
  2. Gas Service Inspection: Once the gas line has been installed and is ready for backfill, an inspection is to be scheduled in order to confirm compliance to Village codes before backfilling the trench.
  3. Final Inspection: To be scheduled once all gas appliances have been fully installed and connected to gas service.
